Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best
On Friday, Jan 1 at 10:32 am Ron and Bonnie Woods were alarmed by the smoke detector upstairs in the home. Ron went upstairs quickly and checked the attic. Smoke bellowed from the attic. He quickly closed the hatch and went downstairs to hear a neighbor banging on the door. The neighbor told them the roof was on fire and to get out.

Ron and Bonnie quickly called the fire department and tried to pull out items from the house. By the time the crews arrived the attic and a large section of the roof was engulfed by flames. The crews tried a quick attach with the deck gun and 2 ½” but ran out of water before the tankers could get to them. The house was lost totally. Ron and Bonnie had purchased a fancy gun safe and placed their valuables and important papers in the safe. When the crew got to the safe the fire had burnt everything up inside.

Ron and Bonnie have volunteered for everything in the community. Ron is very active in the ELKs Club. Ron is a certified EMT2 and an active member of the fire department. These two have helped so many here in Valdez and in Fairbanks when they lived there.

Please pass the word about the fire and if you can pass the boot it is surely needed by these two. They came out of the house with only the clothes on their backs.
