Central Emergency Services - Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best

This is a position that the bureau inherited approximately 9 years ago, under Chief Greg Barkley’s regime. The purpose was mainly to address questions arising from PSA’s forwarded to the media pertaining to structure fires within our fire district. Notoriety and publicity was not the type of thing the department did back in the early 1990’s. Starting in1995, newly appointed Chief Len Malmquist, began a campaign to put the department in the media. The purpose was to make the community aware that we did more than just put out fires and drive ambulances. Most of the media coming from the bureau of fire prevention centralizes around human interest stories connected to fire public education, which may include, but not limited to, puppets, coloring contests, fires, community events, etc.

The time required to complete most of the media work depends on the task at hand and what’s requested. Most PSA’s concerning a fire take about ½ hour, if when one has all the information in hand to explain the Who, What, Where, How and Why aspects of the fire.
