The Division of Fire Prevention undertakes active roles in the department which include, but are not limited to, Fire Safety Education for a population of 22,000 individuals, code enforcement for the city of Soldotna covering an area approximately seven square miles, maintaining certified fire investigators, providing information for the media, and coordinating community events.

The task at hand is to work with the community to provide information that can save the peoples lives, not only in the case of a fire, but provide information pertaining to safety generated by seasons and holidays of the year. This may include safety information during the winter, which may include injury prevention for falls during the snowy months, or ice safety when the temperatures begin to drop. Information concerning boating regulations and safety when the ice disappears and fishing begins. Providing information to drivers concerning car seat safety or conducting safety inspections through organizations such as "Safe Kids." Remember, "children are no accident". Working with organizations such as this, safety reaches all ages in regards to bicycle safety, boating safety, roller blading, skateboard, just to mention a few.

The Division of Fire Prevention organizes events for visibility and helpfulness to the community. This would include, but not limited to, The fire fighters "Fill the Boot" during " Muscular Dystrophy", manning kettles during "Ring the Bell" for the Salvation Army at Christmas, or assisting the Food Bank as a collection point, helping the needy during holiday seasons.
