This entails three days of involvement, with Friday allowed for set-up, and the actual show beginning on Saturday, running from 9 AM until 8 PM, and on Sunday, starting at 10 AM and lasting upon 6 PM. EMS Week During this week, CES makes it a point to provide visibility and valuable information to the community concerning the heightened interest in EMS, to both acknowledge the heroic and diligent efforts of EMS providers in our community and to give Americans information they need to live safer lives. This event occurs the third week in May, starting on Sunday and extends through Saturday of the same week. CES normally takes the last two days of the week to celebrate this special occasion. Fred Meyers, again, has been the location of choice due to the high amount of traffic and accessibility. CES provides a booth with numerous pieces handout material, providing personnel to answer questions, administer blood pressures, and pieces of apparatus for the publics’ inspection. Smoke Detector Give Away Program This program began in 1997, when investigating home fires, within the fire district, found most homes without smoke detectors or detectors without batteries. Money budgeted each year allows the bureau to purchase sufficient numbers of smoke detectors to hand-out to home owners who have no smoke detectors or can’t afford purchasing one. The Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Rick Manager, Gary Lamb, has allowed the fire department to also install smoke detectors, guaranteeing their installation once they’re handed to the homeowner. Approximately 40 smoke detectors are issued on an annual basis Along that same thought, CES promotes “Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery” campaign each year, with PSA’s to the media and making use of the reader board located on the Binkley side of the building. This campaign reminds the community the importance of, not only checking the smoke detector, but also changing the battery twice a year. When you change your clock for daylight savings time, Change your Battery in your smoke detectors. |
