About 4:30 PM on Monday July 2, a single engine airplane made an emergency landing in the gravel pit behind the State Forestry complex located near Mile 92.5 of the Sterling Highway.

The pilot of the aircraft exited the plane under his own efforts and was treated at Central Peninsula Hospital.

"The highway was packed with cars on both sides, and they watched him come in," said Soldotna Police Sgt. Robb Quelland.

"Witnesses said he cleared the power lines and went about 200 yards on the ground before striking the embankment."
